    Ductogram

There are up to 20 separate duct openings on the nipple, and a ductogram study is sometimes performed when a patient presents with a specific discharge or bleeding from a nipple duct.

A ductogram study displays the duct structures within a certain section of the breast. A fluid that is visible on a mammogram, is injected into the duct, to produce a "map" of the problematic area.

    Method
A very fine blunt needle is inserted into the duct opening and then mammographic pictures are obtained after the contrast fluid has been injected into the duct.

    Time
A ductogram will take between 30 minutes - 1 hour.
